Congratulations to our member, Uluu, for winning the 2025 SXSW Innovation Award in the Sustainability Solutions category. This award recognizes Uluu‘s development of a seaweed-based PHA alternative to conventional plastics.​
🌊 Uluu‘s materials are produced through a fermentation process using seaweed, resulting in polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) that mimic traditional plastics but are both bio-based and compostable. Their innovative approach has led to collaborations with brands like Quiksilver, integrating Uluu‘s materials into products such as wax combs for surfboards.
